Teatro Colon and this city block is one of the regions that keeps people comparing BA to Paris. And this Fall, Teatro Colon is particularly spectacular. It opened it's doors September 21st after being closed for I think two years for remodeling for Argentina's the bi-centennial. The theater is over 100 years old, 1908, and probably the most spectacular in the world right now. Opera singers vie for venues here as it's famous for its acoustics.
It's always fun to learn some trivia. Back in the early 1900's widows were not to be seen in public, I'm not sure how long in Argentina but in Mexico it was a year. There were Widow Boxes, opera boxes that were in the basement and had a view to the stage but with bars so no one could see in? Well, just in case you're wondering, we didn't take one of those.
